Tandem Walk

Walking steadily in a straight line can be a balance challenge. If you find yourself walking hastily around your home, reaching for furniture for balance and confidence, this exercise will help with improving confident walking around your home.

  • Stand upright and side on to a solid wall or kitchen worktop.
  • Put one hand on the surface for confidence, aim to walk with long, even strides, placing the heel down first and remaining upright as you walk in a straight line.
  • Stop, get your balance, turn with control and walk back to the start position.

Walking slower will challenge your balance so if you need to take extra steps to regain balance as you walk, this is good and shows your balance is being challenged.
